XraySpeX: Live Music Industry Experience for Ages 14-17
Ever wondered what it really takes to put on a live show?
Oxford Art Factory, in partnership with The Push and Calibre Music Management, is bringing back XraySpeX, a hands-on youth mentoring program designed for the next generation of live music professionals.
If you’re 14–17 years old and passionate about music, XraySpeX gives you the chance to step behind the scenes and discover how live gigs come together. As part of the 2027 XraySpeX Committee, you’ll work alongside industry professionals to help program, promote and produce a series of real, all-ages, alcohol-free matinee shows featuring NSW artists at one of Sydney’s most iconic live music venues, Oxford Art Factory.
First established in 2008, XraySpeX was created to give young people genuine access to Sydney’s independent live music scene. Over the years, the program has hosted some of the earliest performances by iconic Australian artists, including Tame Impala, The Presets, The Jezabels and Art vs. Science. More recently, the XraySpeX stage has also welcomed artists including Winston Surfshirt, The Vanns, DJ Ninajirachi and many more.
This is a genuine opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience, build practical skills and valuable connections, and help make live music more accessible for under-18 audiences across NSW.
Over the course of the program, you’ll gain practical, real-world experience in:
– Artist booking
– Marketing and promotion
– Live event production
– Working as part of an industry team
The program runs throughout mid-2027 during out-of-school hours. Participation is free, with a limited number of places available. No previous experience is required. Just bring your curiosity, commitment to learning and passion for live music.
