What can we say, 10 years is a very long time… Opening in 2007 on Oxford Street the Oxford Art Factory bang-ganged its way into the Sydney live music and arts scene filling the space with punters watching world class international performers and home grown talent, week in and out. The adjoining Gallery Bar is where thousands of artists have cut their teeth, performing their first shows and launching releases within the intimate space, including the likes of The Rubens, Nick Murphy fka Chet Faker, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and The Preatures.

Mark Gerber ‘The Boss’ and founder of  the Oxford Art Factory, has overseen (and contributed to), all the blood sweat and tears that the venue has soaked up over the last decade. Always taking chances booking unknown acts like the King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Mark says – “I asked if they’d headline the upcoming Birthday, which they did and turned the place upside down, since then they have graced our stages more times than I can count and for that I’m eternally grateful to them”.

Mark also landed Lady Gaga’s first ever Sydney show – “I had no idea what to expect she was unknown then, we got way more than we ever bargained for”.

The Oxford Art Factory has also been a friendly space for the biggest artists in music to come in for a drink or last minute gig – “Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age dropped in to the Gallery bar to a party hosted by The Killers for tequila shots”.

More recently, the $20 show that brought Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins to the venue to perform the best of the 70’s and 80’s with their cover band Chevy Metal.

The Oxford Art Factory stands to be much more than just a music venue but as space important to Sydney. Aiming to continuously provide a lovingly curated, diverse offering to music and art lovers in Sydney from a small team of staff that are interested in the greater good of the community. Thanks for returning and keeping us alive, Sydney. Here’s to another ten years!

In celebration, The Oxford Art Factory proudly presents an eclectic lineup of staff favourites from Sydney and interstate. The free event features artists that have sold out shows at the venue to newcomers.
